THE OBSESSION: Grey matters

by Paul Julch in the obsession

Some say that grey is the new black.  We say grey is the new nude. Overwhelmingly versatile, grey is that quiet neutral that plays a supporting role as well as it takes center stage. Pale greys feel the newest, freshest and most lush for fall, popping up in shoes, bags, and even richly toned jewelry. Now, when someone says it's a grey day, you know they mean it's a good one!

Pale grey makes a subtly sophisticated combination with khakis, taupes, and off-whites - it exudes refinement and luxury.  And paired with color, a pair of pale grey pumps can be as leg lengthening and versatile as your favorite nude heels.  It feels just a little newer and fall-right.

We love ivory, grey and camel together - so check out some inspirational looks combining these colors with pale grey accessories.  If you're still in a grey mood, click here for more choices on our "Grey matters" Pinterest board - they're grey-t!  (pardon the pun)

COMFY AND SEXY

Take an ice grey sweatshirt dress, add a shaped leather jacket and suede booties - and you've got a look that's comfortable but still sexy.  Add a detailed necklace, and you're good for lunch with the girls or a casual date.

RUNNING AROUND TOWN

Use a sophisticated color palette to make a sweater and cords a bit more special.  A bold graphic top and ivory bottoms anchor camel, brown and grey accessories, while gold jewelry adds some warmth.

GREY ON GREY

Do you love charcoal, but need a break from black accessories?  Then keep piling on the grey.  Luscious suede pumps, grey frames and a snake-print bracelet take a simple skirt and top into ultra-sophisticated territory.  A taupe bag and whimsical gold earrings keep it from getting monotone.

Sweater, skirt by Zara.  Heels by Calvin Klein Collection.  Eyeglass frames by Madewell.  Clutch by Fendi.  Earrings by Tory Burch.  Bracelet by Alexander McQueen.
