So, I’ve been asked a lot lately about virtual styling. What is virtual wardrobe styling? How do you do it? Is it as effective as in-person sessions? Believe it or not, I work virtually with clients that live far away from me, but also with clients that live close by. Why? Because sometimes virtual styling options work better for your schedule or your lifestyle. And with many clients, our work together is a combination of in-person appointments and virtual sessions, as a path to evolve your style in a manner that works best for your specific needs.
During the current pandemic, all of my work with clients is virtual – some of them are new clients that I’ve onboarded during the crisis and we’ve never met in person. And a bunch of them are continuing clients – we’ve already started working on their wardrobes, and we’re continuing the work virtually to maintain our momentum and to ensure that they feel great about what they see in the mirror both during and after the crisis is over.
But here’s the big question that I’m often asked: Is working together virtually the same as working together in person? Do I get the same results? My answers are no and yes, respectively.
Working together virtually yields the same results as working together in person, but the path is a little bit different. When we work together virtually, I give you pre-work to accomplish, homework to get done between sessions, I’ll ask you for a bunch of photos and I rely on the information you give me - and our face-to-face sessions are accomplished via video. So, it’s a process that depends more on your motivation and active participation to yield the results you want, since I’m not always there in person to nudge you along (although I’ll definitely nudge when we’re on video calls!). But you’ll still get all the results you’re looking for. No more standing in front of your closet, unsure of what to wear. No more doubting whether what you just bought works for your lifestyle and your body. And a lot of looking at yourself in the mirror and loving your reflection.
Rachel is a client I started working with last year. She has a high profile job, two young kids, is a recent author and had a TED talk coming up. She lives in Santa Fe (and I’m in the SF Bay Area), so almost our entire relationship has been virtual. Here’s a quick snippet of what she had to say about working together virtually:
“I needed help - from afar! I had zero time to shop, a rather challenged sense of style…and an upcoming TED mainstage talk!...Paul and I worked almost entirely remotely. He would shop online and recommend things for me that were returnable…Soon I had not just a TED outfit, but an entirely new approach to work and travel clothes that fit my stage of life and need to upgrade my style.” Click here to read more of what Rachel had to say.
