I sometimes think that Thanksgiving is the best holiday. After all, isn’t it basically all about food, family and friends (with a nap thrown in for good measure)? And it sure beats some of those other end-of-year holidays, since there’s no pressure about gifts! So, I guess the only thing you’ll need to worry about on Thanksgiving besides what and where to eat is what to wear. Whether you’re visiting with rarely-seen family, sticking close to home or enjoying a restaurant-made friends-giving, you’ll want to be stylish, and above all else, comfortable. And in case you didn’t know, you can look totally pulled together for the holiday in outfits that are also full-belly friendly.
Read below for my top three looks that you can wear to Thanksgiving dinner that show your style as well as they allow you to have a second helping of stuffing (and mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie!).
SWEATER DRESS & BOOTS
I love a sweater dress, for many reasons – it’s super comfortable, feels cozy in chilly weather, and is essentially a one piece outfit that makes fall dressing a breeze. And most styles are full-stomach friendly, so you can enjoy the holiday without anything getting in the way (see more Thanksgiving sweater dress outfits here, and click here to read how to wear one to all your holiday parties).
Check out this camel sweater dress – it’s the basis of a supremely chic outfit with black slouchy boots and an attention-getting necklace. Add an on-trend faux fur leopard coat and snake print clutch and you’re set for a holiday meal that you didn’t have to cook (if you’re lucky).
ELASTIC WAIST PANTS & LONG CARDIGAN
You might be thinking, “elastic waist pants – is he kidding?” But don’t judge, at least not yet. The current athleisure trend has brought with it many stylish elastic (or drawstring) waist pants that provide necessary room during a hearty meal. And even though these styles are comfy through your middle, they’re tailored and finished just like regular pants – so no one will accuse you of wearing sweatpants at the dinner table.
If you’re cooking at home or walking to the neighbor’s house for a casual evening, don’t make it too complicated – a simple silky blouse and long cardigan complement an easy pant, so that you can focus on food, friends and fun.
COZY SWEATER & BOYFRIEND JEANS
If you’re like me, Thanksgiving is usually super casual – so, jeans make total sense. But instead of your go-to skinny jeans, grab a relaxed pair of boyfriend (or girlfriend) jeans that are anything but tight. Finish off your holiday outfit with a neutral palette – an ivory cabled sweater, camel suede booties and a plaid cape. Who said that you can’t be fashionable in clothes that feel good, too?
