Spring is almost here (really, it's just days away!) and you're so excited to break out the warm weather styles that have been sitting in the back of your closet for months. You can't wait to toss off those chunky sweaters, winter layers and boots in favor of easy breezy tops, flirty dresses and shoes that let your feet breathe. But unfortunately, the weather isn't cooperating. Even if the calendar says mid-March, your thermometer says chilly and the weather says rainy.
But you don't have to wait for a change in the weather to wear your favorite spring styles. Check out my tips on integrating what you're dying to put on, into what you can wear today! And even if the weather is dreary, your outfit doesn't have to be...
WHITE JEANS
In my fashion bible, white jeans are a year-round staple, but many people wait until the temps rise to put them back into rotation. So how can you wear them when it's not all sunshine and flowers outside? Pair them with dark neutrals, style them as part of a layered look, and even try them with a turtleneck. Yes, it's that easy. TIP: Stick to the cool-but-sunny days to wear your white jeans - snow and rain aren't friendly to the lighter color!
FLORAL PRINTS
Flower-based prints seem to be on trend every spring, which really just means that they're a perennial favorite. If you wait to wear this blossoming print until things bloom in the garden, you've been waiting too long. Pair your floral print dress with a long cozy cardigan as a weather-appropriate layer or simply opt for a flower print blouse as a pop in your everyday business casual look. TIP: Darker-based floral prints are less summery than white-based prints, so they're easier to transition between seasons.
LIGHTWEIGHT OUTERWEAR
If you haven't pulled your denim jacket, lightweight bomber, or knit moto out of the closet yet, go grab it right now! It's the perfect addition to an outfit based in a button-down shirt and sweater - it's less bulky than your winter wool coats, and oh-so-much-easier to toss off when the afternoon sun shines. TIP: In general, it's easier to layer multiple lighter weight fabrics than heavy ones, and it ends up offering more warmth - so stick to thinner tops and merino wools when choosing what to wear over what.
