If you’ve been shopping lately, you know that burgundy is a super hot and on trend color for the fall/winter season. And since it’s a shade that works on almost anyone, you’ve probably already embraced it in your wardrobe. But how are you wearing your burgundy? Basing your outfit in neutrals, with burgundy as the pop color, is a perfectly stylish way to wear it – but have you ever thought of burgundy as the neutral, and surrounded it with other colors?
Burgundy is one of those amazing shades that’s super fashion-friendly – it works with neutrals of course, but it’s sartorially stellar with everything from deep saturated tones to pale shades to brights. I have a few favorite ways to wear burgundy – specifically, with pale pink, light blue, and mustard (another hot color for fall!).
BURGUNDY AND PALE PINK
I’ve always loved these two together – they’re from the same family, but at opposite ends of saturation. The softness of blush-y pink tones gets a bit more sophisticated with burgundy, and it’s a decidedly feminine pairing that I return to year after year.
I posted this burgundy and pink pairing on Instagram a few weeks back, from a recent client shopping trip to Club Monaco.
BURGUNDY AND LIGHT BLUE
This combo is a little unexpected, but just feels right when you see it. The most straightforward way to embrace it is with burgundy and pale blue chambray/denim – but it also shines as parts of a more dressed up look.
BURGUNDY AND MUSTARD YELLOW
A daring duo for many, pairing these two shows that you’re not shy when it comes to playing with color. Both are quintessential fall tones, but together they add up to much more than the sum of their parts.
I created this outfit a few years back for a client, and had to post about it on the blog – and I also created a burgundy/mustard combo for him to wear, too.
