Brrr it's chilly (worse in some places than others), but not every day is a jeans or pants day. Sometimes you just gotta grab a skirt - and January is the perfect time for your favorite cold-weather mini. I've seen a lot of clients breaking out their minis lately, but some have a little hesitation about showing so much leg. So since it's officially the season for a tweedy or leather mini, I wanted to give you a few options for having your own 'mini moment', without having to worry about it looking too sexy or bearing too much skin.
TIGHTS AND BOOTS
The easiest way to bare less skin (and stay warm) in a winter mini is with tights and boots. But how do you choose your tights and boots? See below for a few tips:
- Dark tights and boots will make you look taller, and your legs look longer and slimmer. If you're not concerned with looking taller (i.e. you're already pretty tall), feel free to go for lighter tights with darker boots (or vice versa).
- Not sure what color tights to choose? Match your tights to your skirt or to your boots. If you're wearing a patterned skirt - go with the dominant dark color in the print.
- Boots that maintain the natural silhouette of your legs will also make your legs look longer and leaner. This means choosing knee-high boots where the shaft hugs your calves, or booties where the opening is tight to your ankle.
CHUNKY SWEATERS
A slim-fitting, torso-hugging top can be sexy unto itself - so pairing it with a mini skirt definitely ups the sultry factor. If you're looking to tame the inherent sex appeal of a short skirt, balance your mini with a chunky sweater or boxier top.
LONG CARDIGAN
If you're not in a tights-wearing mood, but you want to minimize the bare legs in your mini, grab your favorite long cardigan. It's a fun play of proportions - and then you're only mini in the front, and covered in the back.
