I’m from the northeast – so growing up, we used to beg for a snow day, a day when school was canceled due to bad weather. But here in the SF Bay Area, we don’t have snow days. We do have rainy days, but school doesn’t get canceled when it rains. If it’s raining, the only thing you can guarantee is bad drivers and a slow commute.
We have had our share of rain in the past couple of weeks – which is good, because it was desperately needed. Another reason why rain is good? I get to wear my rain jackets!
A good rain jacket is a must for most - and if you live where rain isn't a passing fad, but a season, you need at least a couple to get you through. So why not have a few to prove that form can follow function in a very stylish way? Here are the jackets that keep me dry when it’s wet out.
This peacoat silhouette jacket was a recent purchase (on sale!). As is, it works for a decent drizzle - and when the weather turns ugly, I can flip the collar up and protect myself a bit more. And it sure looks nice. See? Functional can be cute, too.
Yellow double-breasted jacket by Hancock. Navy merino turtleneck (similar here), grey wool cap by Banana Republic. Striped gloves (similar here) by Brooks Brothers.
This is a serious rain jacket silhouette - longer length and with a hood. You might not think white is a good color for outerwear – but it sure helps when walking the dogs at night.
White hooded jacket by Stutterheim. Striped hat (similar here) by Gap. Printed scarf by Christian Lacroix.
A little more fashionable but altogether functional, this jacket has some serious bells and whistles. Pockets galore, a belt, snaps upon snaps AND a pop color trim. Gotta love that!
Black jacket by Ovadia & Sons. Striped scarf by Jack Spade. Blue fingerless gloves by J. Crew.
